Courses And Volunteers
The training for car tyre foundation laying, straw and early cob wall construction, and lime and clay plastering was led by Amazon Nails, a big thanks to Barbara, Bee and Lesley. Early roofing training was led by our shake suppliers, Carpenter Oak & Woodland.
We also had a lot of volunteers working hands-on on short work parties and the cob brick "manufacture", the straw loading and some trimming and the painting was undertaken this as was a bit of clay plastering.
Others helped out with administration, catering, education work and documentation; including filming, photography and even this website. One way or another over 140 different people took part in formal the training events , and another 120 had a go at cob brick making alone, with another 60 plus helping out elsewhere. We estimate that we have had over 450 volunteer labour days on construction, and people have put in another 230 volunteer days on other aspects of the project.
Throughout the whole year The Project Team were, and still are, completely blown away by the enthusiasm, hard work, positive responses and evident enjoyment of those who pitched in. It was a fine, rewarding experience for all of us involved.
