Up On The Roof

It was slow, it was absorbing, it was highly skilled, it took a lot longer than originally thought and it is fantastic to look at, with the 12,000 oak shakes, the beautiful curve to the ridge line and the gorgeous sweep to the edge. A group of volunteers worked on it in July and then professional contractors seeing to its completion in September, firstly a firm from Carlisle, Frasier Roofing, and then Stuart and Tony from Gower in Wales who beautifully finished the job.

Issues over the layout of the shakes meant some of the work done initially had to be removed and redone in order to get regulatory approval. This discussions over this took time to resolve and added to the cost of the project and was one of the biggest learning points of the whole construction.
