Straw Arrival
The (wheat) straw came from a merchant near Gisburn who sourced the stuff we were looking for from near Hull. It might sound a lot of straw miles, but strong, straight, consistent, densely baled straw was needed. This tends to come from straw grown on even ground, in dry-ish conditions, and low lying too so that the farmer can bale at a consistent speed. The merchant stored it for us over the winter, and then it was delivered to a nearby Trust farm in April 2006 and ferried on site as it was needed.
